Stephanie Etienne, BS, MSW, LGSW, LMSW Perinatal Behavioral Health Associate

Stephanie Etienne, BS, MSW, LGSW, LMSW, joined the Developing Brain Institute in September 2024 as a Perinatal Behavioral Health Associate for the Mommy&Me study, supporting research examining the intersection of maternal mental health. Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Morgan State University, in Baltimore, MD, where she gained her initial exposure to research. She later earned her master’s degree in Social Work from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Stephanie has a diverse background in clinical practice, and she has provided individual and group therapy to children, adolescents and adults, including perinatal populations. She has worked across various settings, including schools,

residential facilities, in-patient and out-patient clinics, and non-profit organizations, with a strong focus on serving marginalized and underserved communities. In her previous roles, Stephanie advocated for equitable access to mental health resources and tailored her approach to meet the unique needs of individuals from different racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Stephanie is especially passionate about perinatal mental health, recognizing the disparities in care that disproportionately affect women from marginalized communities. Her dedication to addressing systemic barriers and ensuring that all mothers receive the care they need are among her core values. Through her work on the Mommy&Me study, Stephanie aims to empower women during the perinatal period, promoting holistic wellness for both mother and child, and fostering resilience in families.
