Dae-young (Leroy) Kim, Ph.D. Research Postdoctoral Fellow

Dae-young (Leroy) Kim, Ph.D., joined the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) at Children’s National Hospital in April 2025 as a Research Postdoctoral Fellow. Dae-young’s research focuses on advancing the understanding of fetal and neonatal brain development through the application of deep learning and machine learning methodologies to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Functional MRI.

Before his appointment at DBI, he earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Dae-young’s doctoral research centered on developing an ontology-based framework to automate compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and

Accountability Act and to facilitate secure health data exchange.

His long-term research vision is to lead interdisciplinary collaborations at the intersection of artificial intelligence and perinatal health care to enhance pediatric resilience and health outcomes.
