MARIAM M. SAID, M.D. Medical Director, Neonatal Intensive Care, Reston Hospital Center

Mariam M. Said, M.D., has been Medical Director, Neonatal Intensive Care, at Reston Hospital Center since 2019. This affiliate neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Children’s National Hospital in northern Virginia brings expert care of one the nation’s top NICUs to families closer to home.

Dr. Said completed her training in General Pediatrics, followed by a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, both at Children’s National. After completing training in 2011, she joined Children’s Division of Neonatology as an attending neonatologist. From 2012-2019, she served as the associate fellowship program

director for neonatal-perinatal medicine. Dr. Said also is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

In addition to numerous educational initiatives for postgraduate medical trainees, Dr. Said’s scholarly work includes collaborations with industry partners for studies involving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, as well as clinical research collaborations between the department of surgery studying necrotizing enterocolitis. She also works with the Developing Brain Institute utilizing advanced MRI technology to study newborn brain development and injury. In her role as Medical Director, Dr. Said is involved in several quality and safety initiatives at Reston Hospital Center aimed at advancing patient care, as well as improving patient experience.
