DBI award winners at 14th Annual REI Week

The Developing Brain Institute (DBI) was honored to have four award winners during the 2024 Research, Education & Innovation Week (REIW) at Children’s National:

  • Kristen Kocher, Ph.D., research postdoctoral fellow, received the Certificate of Excellence: Basic Science Fellow Award. As a graduate student, Dr. Kocher won this same award in 2022 for her poster, “Characterization of neonatal epigenetic markers associated with elevated stress from the COVID-19 pandemic.” She and co-authors published this manuscript in 2023.
  • Brieanne (Brie) Kohrt, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, received the Global Health Initiative Pilot Award for “Utz laj ch’ob’oneem (Healthy Thoughts): Pilot testing a culturally-centered perinatal depression program for indigenous Mayan women.”
  • Naimah Saleem, MS, MA, LPC, R-DMT, PMH-C, lead perinatal behavioral health specialist for the Mommy&Me study, received the Excellence in Diversity Equity and Inclusion Award.
  • Yao Wu, Ph.D., research faculty (assistant professor), won the Certificate of Excellence: Clinical Research Career Level Faculty Award. Of note, as a post doc Dr. Wu also won this same award in 2018 for her poster, “Maternal stress during pregnancy alters regional brain growth in fetuses with congenital heart disease.”

We’re also excited that dozens of staff affiliated with DBI showcased their research during REIW 2024. Scroll through the table below to see their posters.
