STEVE C.N. HUI, PH.D. Research Faculty (Assistant Professor)
Steve C.N. Hui, Ph.D., is a research faculty (assistant professor) in the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) at Children’s National Hospital. Steve’s research interests lie in the application and development of new sequences for brain magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy.
Prior joining DBI, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Steve has participated in the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study, a large National Institutes of Health-funded study of early-childhood brain development involving 25 sites around the U.S. He also was involved in other collaborative studies, including the investigation of frequency drift, which included 80
participating sites, using over 100 3T MR scanners from three major vendors; and another study that investigated the relationship between age and macromolecular concentrations. Steve also has developed the MRSCloud, a cloud-based platform for generating metabolite basis sets for linear-combination modeling analyses, which aims to help community users to acquire basis sets in a reliable and convenient manner.
Steve completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During his postgraduate training, he focused on the development of an automated algorithm for lipid segmentation using MR imaging, and he studied the etiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease using MR spectroscopy. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Applied Science at the University of British Columbia.
