Anjola Akintoba, B.S. Research Technician III

Anjola Akintoba, B.S., joined the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) in March 2026 as a Research Technician III. Anjola graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and a focus in Biotechnology and Therapeutics Engineering. For four years, she was a member of an undergraduate research team through the Gemstone Honors Program. While on Team Pharmaceutical Innovation through Laser Lithography Strategies (PILLS), Anjola conducted research on an interdisciplinary team to define a method for 3-D printing biodegradable pills that control the release of therapeutic drugs. Anjola and her team presented their thesis about their research at the annual Gemstone Thesis

Conference. In her final year, Anjola and her Capstone team collaborated with Dr. Riccardo Serra at the University of Maryland School of Medicine to design and produce a novel ventricular catheter capable of improving outcomes for patients diagnosed with acute hydrocephalus. Anjola and her team showcased their design and experiments at the inaugural Design Expo Day at the University of Maryland and won the MPower award for exemplary collaboration with the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Anjola and members of her team also presented project outcomes to the A. James Clark School of Engineering Board of Visitors.

Anjola is excited to join the DBI research team where she will contribute to MRI acquisition and post-processing.
