Sudeepta K. Basu, M.D.

Attending Neonatologist

Sudeepta K. Basu, M.D., is an attending neonatologist, and he investigates early neuroimaging markers of brain injury and monitoring of sleep maturation in preterm and sick newborns. In particular, Dr. Basu focuses on novel neuroimaging techniques to estimate the concentration of GABA, a vital neurotransmitter, in preterm brains (Project MAGIC study) under the mentorship of Catherine Limperopoulos, Ph.D., at the Developing Brain Institute at Children’s National. Under the PRO-SLEEP study, his team is refining non-invasive automated sleep monitoring for infants to better understand the impact of neonatal intensive care unit care on their circadian rhythm and brain maturation.
